The National Leaving Care ‘Keep Dreaming’ Awards 2010

The Care Leavers’ Foundation and Care Matters Partnership would like to invite you to make a nomination for the Leaving Care Awards 2010. They are a set of awards designed to celebrate the wide ranging talents and abilities of care leavers (aged 18 plus) and to reward the exceptional support they have received from professionals and carers.

There are 15 awards to be won in total:

Judges, consisting of care leavers and professionals, will be looking for evidence from young people of effort, courage, perseverance and determination in overcoming challenges and reaching ambitions and goals and making their dreams come true.

We are looking for evidence of creativity and consistency from adult supporters, examples of best practice, evidence of ‘going the extra mile’ and high quality support offered by teams and individual professionals and carers, above and beyond minimum entitlements conferred by legislation.

The evening awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 27 October 2010 at a London venue during Care Leavers’ Week. The event itself will encompass a sit down meal with the winners of the awards, sponsors, celebrities and other professionals from the sector. The evening will contain a mix of the awards themselves and performances from young people who have a care background.

Nominations can be made online. You should give as much detail as possible about the person you are nominating. The closing date for nominations is 10 September 2010.

All nominations will be shortlisted and judged by a group of care leavers and professionals relating to leaving care. You will then be notified if your nomination has been successful in winning an award. You will receive an invitation for you and a guest. The person you are nominating will be able to bring along a guest too. You will need to ensure you will be available to travel to Central London on the evening of Wednesday 27 October 2010.

If your nomination is not successful in winning an award this time around, you and the person you are nominating will receive a certificate of achievement.

The person you are nominating must be a care leaver over the age of 18, or a professional. You are not eligible to nominate yourself.
